An Update on
False negative: a negative test result in a cat that is actually positive.
False positive: a positive test result in a cat that is actually negative.
Positive predictive value(PPV) is the likelihood that a positive test result actually means the disease (in this case, FIP) is present.
Negative predictive value (NPV) is the likelihood that a negative test result actually means the disease is absent.
RT-PCR: reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction.
RT-nPCR: reverse transcriptase-nested polymerase chain reaction.
Sensitivity is the likelihood that the diagnostic test will show the presence of the disease when it is actually present (also known as the true positive rate).
Seronegative: negative results for virus or viral antibodies in a blood test.
Seropositive: positive results for virus or viral antibodies in a blood test.
Specificity is the likelihood that the diagnostic test will indicate the absence of disease when the disease is actually absent (also known as the true negative rate).
